Ener-Vate & Vital Energi's Dragon Boat helps raise £35k
Vital Energi and Ener-Vate joined 28 other local businesses to take part in Liverpool Waters 8th Dragon Boat Race on the River Mersey. The joint team finished a heart-breaking 35-hundredths of a second behind first placed Everton in The Community, but the real winners were Claire House Children’s Hospice, after the event raised £35,000.
The event, which attracted 200 contestants, was sponsored by Anchor Group Services, with each team raising a minimum of £750 in sponsorship. Teams were made up from businesses across the Liverpool City Region, including tenants, partners and suppliers of Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters.
Team competed in crews of between seven and 13 people, with each team taking part in three timed races of 260m before the knockout stages began.
James Hadfield, Development Manager said “It’s no secret that Ener-Vate and Vital really look forward to the Dragon Boat Race. It's loads of fun, a true team building day full of highs and lows with lots of laughs along the way. The day is so well organised from start to finish and it is amazing to think about all the money that was raised for such a worthy cause. Looking forward to the next one!”
Andrew Wightman, Vital Energi's Pre Construction Director said "It was great to bring so many local businesses together to raise money for such a worthwhile cause and it’s an event we look forward to every year. We’d like to thank Peel L&P for arranging such a worthwhile and fun event and all the other participants who made the day such a special occasion".
Peel L&P’s Liverpool Waters has supported Claire House for a number of years, helping the charity to develop its new site in West Derby, close to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The charity has seen a 61% increase in the seriously and terminally ill children and young people it cares for in the past five years and is struggling to meet this demand.
