Blog: How Do We Drive a More Positive Narrative for Heat Networks?

In this blog, Steve Hunt, Ener-Vate’s Business Development Director, explores why the perception of heat networks needs to shift and what we can do to build a more positive narrative around the industry.

The heat network industry is evolving rapidly. With impending regulation, continued government funding and incredible technical expertise and innovation, we’re making real progress. But despite these advancements, one critical challenge remains - getting customers to connect.

The reality is, we have a great product, but the general public doesn’t yet fully understand it. Without that understanding, we risk missing out on the full potential that heat networks can offer.

The perception of heat networks needs to shift. Too often, the conversation around our industry focuses on the challenges rather than the huge successes. Yes, there are hurdles to overcome in building a heat network, but the end goal, a reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective heating solution is worth it.

The networks we’re developing today are better designed, better managed, and better regulated than ever before. That’s a story we should be telling loudly and proudly.

For heat networks to thrive, we need customers to want to connect.

That means:

- Educating people on how heat networks work and their benefits

- Highlighting success stories of well-run networks delivering for their consumers

- Demonstrating the long-term financial and environmental benefits of connection

- Ensuring trust through robust industry standards and strong operational performance

- Similar to the current Government Heat Pump advertising campaign, the general public needs to be aware of the needs and benefits that heat networks will provide.

The future of heating in the UK will be based primarily on heat pumps and heat networks. The public, developers, and major heat users need to understand that when a heat network is available, it offers both commercial and environmental benefits.

Heat networks are here to stay. The question is: how do we make sure people want to be part of it? The answer lies in positivity, clarity and confidence in what we’re delivering.

At Ener-Vate, we’re committed to playing our part in changing the narrative and making heat networks an easy, trusted, and desirable choice for consumers.
